Here's a "request" tutorial by ~ColonelMarksman, based on this image found here [link]

:iconazraelskyle: Witness my five minute drawing I did over skype by sharing screens!

Original artist is Adrian Smith.

Thanks for posting this. This is sort of what I was trying to explain to a friend of mine but this is a much better visual example than anything I could have said.

Coloring for dummies... this reminds me about the how-to-draw-an-owl meme =P

I hate colorations of old-ass art that wasn't supposed to be colored.

So yeah, shit ain't art, good point showing it.

WOW! Cool!
I was doing something like this, painting in Black and White and then applying a layer of "Multiply" and painting base colors, and another layer of "Screen" to paint the shiny details =D

Yeah, the areas of how strongly you put down the orange and darkness tones in step 2: that requires a knowledge in art as well as skill level with a knowledge in art theory. You can do it quickly because you've been working on art for, I assume, a pretty long time. And with anyone who's been doing it for a long time, things get easier, and quicker.

Example, the way you have a brighter orange at the base of the Bolter flashes and darker, shadier orange around that Bolter flash, and the inky streaks around that takes artistic know-how and shows that you understand light reflections in art theory. The fact you have extremely bright oranges near the base of the explosions is again another show of that in practice.

Further, that you realized there is darkness on one side of that source of light meant you had to counter the orange overlay with shades of blue on the right. That also means your imagination had to have previously plotted the scene taking place in the darkness or at night.

Pssssst *whispers* did you not read the part about what I said? 'Three. basic. steps.'

If the point you're trying to prove is that colorization isn't art, you already failed because the very definition of "colorist" disagrees; a hard fact trumping a hard wrong.

If the point you're trying to prove that it's so easy anyone with Photoshop can do it, you also failed because even in your steps you are showing artistic talent, and that you can do it so quickly only shows you have tremendous talent (and you do, we can see that from your gallery).

If the point you're trying to make has something to do with the picture being a Daily Deviation... I'm sorry to break it to you... you're just hating.
