The Black Dragonsby *MrRumbles

The Black Dragons are one of the Loyalist Space Marine Chapters created during the Cursed 21st Founding; their gene-seed is suspected of having originated with the Salamanders. They were censured by the Inquisition due to the mutation of the Chapter's gene-seed, which causes certain Marines of the Chapter to develop blade-like outgrowths of bone on the head and forearms. Some Black Dragons afflicted in this way sharpened these bone growths and sheathed them in adamantium for use in close melee combat. These Black Dragons are then grouped together into specialist jump-pack-equipped Assault Marine squads known as Dragon Claws within the Chapter.

The Black Dragons are also known for growing very long, poison-tipped fangs. This level of mutation strains the tolerance of the Inquisition and there are many recorded instances of other Space Marines Chapters (notably the Dark Angels and Marines Malevolent) refusing to fight alongside the Black Dragons.

A very nice picture good sir, I believe that the canon is that the 'claws' extend towards the hand rather than the elbow but personally i think they look cooler like this.
Also, they definitely didnt come from the salamaders, because the salamanders have never raised a subsequent founding chapter.

The mutation doesn't designate weather the claws go forward or backwards but if you own the book called "Chapter Approved" it shows the first appearance of the Black Dragons, their rules and even the models, which show the claws going backwards. Also regarding the Salamanders, in the fluff it states that the Black Dragons are 'SUSPECTED'(which i mentioned in the description) to be descendants from them. Its also mentioned in some Black Library novels.

it was discounted entirely in the tome of fire trilogy by nick kyme, it was the second book i think, firedrake[citation needed]
and on the cover of the recent black library book about them it has the claws facing forwards
and im not trying to sound like a douchebag here, i really like your work

Yeah, I'm telling you that there are different variations of the mutation. It doesn't matter which way it goes, up or down, one could go on their arm, one could grow on their head, its not a precise mutation, its variance.
